Women think that building a “big” small business has to be complicated. Not so. You can easily build a successful service-based business using just the telephone and a few simple web pages.

Done right, teleseminars can:

  • boost your credibility
  • build your list
  • generate new clients
  • bring in c’ash
  • open the door to new opportunities
  • help you quickly & easily create info products
  • be a lot of fun!

But what if no one attends? What if no one says “Yes” to your offer? How embarrassing is THAT, right?!

If you know what to do when promoting your teleseminars there’s never any need to feel embarrassed. Here’s are my private tips for CONSISTENTLY getting 2,000 people (and often more) on my teleseminars.

Tip #1 Think Of Your Teleseminar As Hosting A Party

A common mistake women make in promoting their teleseminar is treating it like a lecture. They spend weeks preparing content and handouts, only to be disappointed when few people sign up. Instead, focus on spreading the message as to WHY people should take time out of their busy schedule to attend. When you make it sound exciting more people will want to “join the party.”

Tip #2 Design Your Content To Melt Away Objections

One of my proven secrets is to first brainstorm all of the objections someone may have to either attending my call, or to purchasing what I’m offering. Then, I repurpose this list, using it to write my registration page bullets and later, to write my preview call content. This technique is a simple, authentic way to melt resistance.

Tip #3 Market Until The Last Moment…And Beyond

I recommend setting up:

  • email promotions to your main list, encouraging them to sign up for your call
  • reminder emails that go out to your registered attendees, encouraging them to attend the call live
  • tweets that talk about how excited you are and what problems this call is going to solve
  • pre-written tweets to send to your friends and affiliates (tip: I also include a pre-written tweet at the bottom of each promo email, that the recipient can use to help promote the call)
  • pre-written tweets on the registration thank you page, with an invitation for the participant to tweet about the call
  • reminder emails that go out to attendees a few hours prior to the call (remember, your goal is to get them excited about the call)
  • after-call emails that go to both your main list and to your attendees list, giving them the link to the audio recording

Other ideas are to include special checklist, template or script that you advertise you’ll be giving away during the call. Video is also great to use and can be very effective if you post the video on your blog, with a link to your registration page.

The point is, you have to keep marketing before, during and after your call. I typically see nearly 50% of our call registrations come through in the last 24 hours prior to the call beginning.

Women Are Born Teleseminar Leaders…

Women are a natural for leading calls, sharing new information and helping people solve their problems. But, what do you do if only a few people show up for your call? First of all, don’t take it personally. It’s not that people don’t like you, it’s just that something in the marketing didn’t resonate for them. What’s cool about teleseminars is you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again.

Next, take an honest look at how you did your marketing. Was your call title clear, catchy and focused on solving a specific problem? Many titles are too general or too vague to attract interest. Did you market more than you ever have before? If not, then you know what to do for the next time.

If you’re passionate about helping others, then learning how to promote, fill and sell from your teleseminars is a skill that yes, you CAN learn. I know you can do it!

  2. Great article Kendall and super tips on hosting teleseminars. Want to add that if few people show up, you can still have the recording and eventually transcription, which you can repurpose at a later date i.e. as a bonus, etc. Also congrats on launch of IAWBC! Was on your call tonight and you rocked!

  6. Last night I had the privilege to be part of your teleseminar and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I am not a coach yet. I learned a lot last night about how to build a coaching business; also “not to think what I have right now is what I have to settle for”. I was greatly encouraged by your open and honest demeanor and I look forward to be a part of IAWBC!

    Best wishes,

  8. Kendall, Thank you for reminding me that it’s important to keep the excitement going even after they sign up for the call. For my last teleseminar, I got a ton of people to sign up, but not many actually attended. I sent them reminders about the call, but in looking back on it, I failed to really sell the call with excitement. I figured getting them to sign up would be the hardest part, but you reminded me that it doesn’t end there.
