Is Getting Organized
Good For Your Soul?

Being an organized person has become a badge of honor for those who can claim it, and a potential source of embarrassment and guilt for those who can't.
Why?
Since when did our ability to keep piles of paper neat and tidy or alphabetize our Tupperware become a reflection of our personal character and intention?
It isn't, but being organized CAN make our businesses easier to run and us feel more confident and in charge of the chaos of our day.
The reason has to do with the energy of "things." Things such as email, bills, sticky notes and to-do lists each hold energy. They hold their own energy, as matter in a physical world, plus they hold the energy of the emotions we attach to them.
For example, every time you look at your to-do list do you feel energized and ready to move forward or overwhelmed and defeated before you even start? When you look at the stack of bills and paper you know you "need to organize" does your energy lift up...or sink like a rock?
The fact that a little 'ol piece of paper can hold that much power over us is exactly why we avoid looking at the stack of paper sitting on the floor. It's as if that stack has a neon sign flashing "Guilt, Guilt, Guilt" over and over again. So we avoid it, pushing it out of sight, only it isn't out of our energy field; it's still there, consuming space, time, attention and our self-worth.
That's why, when we finally clean up our piles, answer those emails and throw stuff out we feel so light, free and refreshed. Even though it can be physical work to sort through stuff we feel like we've had a day at the spa!
I just finished spending a Sunday cleaning out and rearranging my office. Now, I am a naturally organized, neat and tidy person so I figured this would be pie. Ugh...the pile of stuff I got rid of, shredded and donated showed me that even us chronically organized types have a thing or two to learn about keeping our energy clear and clean when it comes to our stuff!
Now, sorting through books (yes, even books hold our energy, and not always for the positive!), papers and furniture may not sound like the most fun way to spend a Sunday but when I walked into my office this Monday morning, I was practically skipping.
What items are robbing your energy? What piles or undone items are adding to your guilt? I highly recommend consulting a professional organizer, like my Platinum member, Fearless Organizing Expert Elizabeth Hagen, (who has an online course starting this month). Elizabeth's simple, "get you going" webinar is designed specifically for busy, home-based business owners who want to the courage and the tools to get organized (click here for details).
Whether you hire an organizer, partner with a friend or sort through your stuff yourself, just do it! Every item you ditch, shred or donate is going to lift your spirit, bringing you back in harmony with your Soul's Divine Mission.
